Every achievement ever made started with one single person. Every motion starts with one person deciding to move forward. You got a lot of power to change the world around you and I want to explain how it works. It is actually quite simple. All we need to know is some basics. When it comes to changing the world (or your world) it can just as well start with you. Are you feeling down, does your job suck? Is your personal life chaos? To clean up the mess, start with you.

The Power of One

Fact: You have the power to change and influence other people. Bad news, this does not make you a superhero. It is just basic psychology. If two people interact they will influence each other in some way or another.

”With great power, comes great responsibility” – Uncle Ben to Peter Parker (Spiderman)

Make a Decision

It is your choice to be great. There is no reason for you to sit still, even if the rest of the company is. What does your dream job look like? Do you know how to amaze your customers and your fellow employees? If you radiate with positive energy, positive things will start happening to you.

“Whatever comes our way, whatever battle we have raging inside us, we always have a choice. My friend Harry taught me that. He chose to be the best of himself. It’s the choices that make us who we are, and we could always choose to do what’s right.” – Spiderman

Your energy is like a bouncing ball against the wall

If you shoot out a pounding negative ball into your environment your will achieve one of two;

1) You will influence someone else in a negative way, making their day darker.

2) You will get the ball right back in your face and people will think negative thoughts about you.

Think about your career in the long run, you want to keep those positive balls bouncing.

So what will happen when you are radiating with positive energy and comments?

People will be happy around you

You will surround yourself with happy people

People will like being around you

People will like you

People will smile around you, and make you happy in return.

How You Can Influence Results

Take a good look at the picture below. What team do you think produce the best results? At what team do the employees have more fun? What team has the most experienced employees? What team do you want to work for?

Now ask yourself:
What skills are important in Team Positive Energy?
How can you contribute to creating this team?
Think about all your interactions during the day, how many has a negative message or tone? How many positive? Your job is to reduce the number of negative and increase the number of positive.

The Power of Many

As you influence the people around you, and teach them this philosophy you will after a while experience the power of many. Now imagine these two teams being a part of the same company. Your job as a team is to influence the other teams. How should you interact with other departments at work? How should you greet someone visiting your department to spread the power of positivity?

In the same way as you will influence other, your team will also influence other people only this time in a larger scale. Now imagine that this spreads around the entire company. Do you think this will influence the customer service? Do you think you will get more satisfied customers? Do you think this can influence the company’s’ result?

You should feel obligated to do your best, to think in this way no matter where you work. If you are dissatisfied with your salary you work at Team Negative Energy. If you think your equipment is old you work at Team Negative Energy. As long as you work for Team Negative Energy it will take longer before the company can pay better, before the company can upgrade equipment. You are after all hired to get results. And when your day is over, it is very nice to know that you are contributing to Team Positive Energy. And if everything else fails, you will get a good resume and get hired at another Positive Inc. Either way, you win.

I have one last question for you? “Every achievement ever made started with one single person.” – do you agree?

One last thing…
Remember to subscribe to my blog And remember to share this post with other people. A friend of mine was feeling blue. Life sucks big time. I soon understood that my friend was focusing on small obstacles and things that are out of his control. We talked for a while. What was bringing him down? Well it was the little things in life like trouble at work, little sleep, feeling inadequate. I started by asking about what he is proud about so far. Well, my wife, kids, I actually got a great job, my education is good. These are examples of answers that fell upon the table. Yeah I know that it is a blizzard and cold outside. I know that it is the dark season in Norway right now. But there are a lot of things you cannot control, so stop focusing on the cracks in the road.

Open your eyes and take a look at the view.

Sometimes a complaining co-worker can drag you down, other days you got the huge electric bill. You might have a boss that is giving you a hard time. You might hate the weather, and the bus is late. You can’t control the weather, but you can control how you feel about the weather. Try whistling in the rain. Try walking with an upbeat joyful body posture in the blizzard when everybody is crouching. It is amazing. Being annoyed at the bus driver for being late will not get you any faster to work. Rather thank him for doing a great job, that might remove his stress and he might get you faster to work. Life is long and some periods might be super boring. This is when you must stop, and move your eyes away from the cracks in the road of life. Take a birds view and look at the long run. You might have a good marriage; your spouse might even love you. When you think about it you might even love your job! Think about why you like stuff in the first place. You might suddenly find yourself moving your eyes from the crack in the road to looking at the scenery of your life. I said to my friend stop looking at the cracks and rocks on your path and look up and around you. What do you see?

Today I am presenting an easy to implement tool to boost work morale, mood and fun around the office. Just give your co-workers or employees the true joy of applause. We got one kind of activity that we manages to complete ten to fifteen times a day, and for each employee that manages to complete this task, gets to put a magnet on a white board to symbolize that we are getting closer to the goals of fifteen completed tasks. And for each person standing up we cheer and applaud. Sometimes we fail to notice it in all the other havoc resulting in one or two clapping their hands all red, but those times when everyone cheers and join in is priceless. The mood rise like a rocket and people is laughing; even the customers is wondering why we are cheering and gets amused. It is a win win win win situation for everybody.

So the challenge of today is to find a reason to make applause a part of your day at work! Try to give a great applause to someone that just enters the room, they will feel GREAT! And you will feel great, and all others that clap hands will feel great. Clapping your hands should replace happy pills as a drug, it is so effective.

So let’s sit back and imagine what it would feel like to be Spanish at Ernst Happel Stadium during the final in Euro 2008. I know that I got sucked into all the joy, as I was standing just about 20 feet away from the Spanish crowd this day.

And for those that have no interest in soccer, let’s take a look at Michael Jordan’s last game and standing ovation. Imagine being in this crowd feeling all this positive energy! WOW!

So if you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands or should it be if you’re in need of happiness clap your hands? Have a super fantastic day!

I still need more participants to my survey, but I want to reveal some results so far. I just focus on one thing only today what is most important, positive feedback from your co-workers or from your boss?

So far it seems that people that prefer positive feedback from co-workers are happier with both their boss and with their co-workers than those that prefer positive feedback from their boss.

But it does not matter if you prefer positive feedback from your boss or your manager, it seems like either way you are a bit happier with your co-workers.

Not very interesting so far, and it seems that co-workers might have a bigger impact on job happiness than management does.

The interesting fact about positive feedback is this: Of the people claiming that positive feedback is most valuable when it comes from a co-worker we find 53.33 % men almost 50/50. And how many men do find positive feedback from their boss as most important? The answer is 92.86 % Only 7.14 % of this group is women. This is a huge difference. So if you are a boss, should you give more positive feedback to the men, and encourage the men to give positive feedback to the women?

Is this because men are more ambitious? Is it because women are more caring?

I will continue to reveal more interesting facts from the survey soon.
